When I first saw Miu Miu’s Spring/Summer 2010 runway show, I was instantly smitten by the sickly-sweet cutesy prints, as did the rest of the fashion world. The pink swiftlets on black background and the white cats on blue background are my favourites of the lot!
I came across this skirt first; I love the box pleat detail in front on an otherwise simple shape:
When it came to research, this is where things get a little muddled. Miu Miu reissued the same print for their Resort 2016 show, but also used the same skirt shape in S/S 2010. I’m a stickler for getting facts right, so I scoured the entire internet and asked my collector friends on Threads for their opinion; when was this skirt made?
The opinions were split, which made it worse for me, haha! And then I found a similar skirt on TheRealReal that already sold; the listing description dated it to 2015, which added to the confusion. Personally, I thought it was made for the later season due to the material; this skirt is made of 100% viscose, which seems to be the fabric of choice for Resort 2016. Also, the blue colour used for S/S 2010 seems much lighter and pastel compared to the more vivid blue used in Resort 2016.
Anyway, here is dress from 2016 that has the same skirt shape:
For further reference, here are similar dresses (but blinged out versions) walking down the Resort 2016 runway:

Then, a recent listing on TheRealReal (still available for purchase HERE at time of writing) pretty much helped confirm my hypothesis that the skirt is indeed from Resort 2016. Case closed (I think)!
A fact worthy of note to differentiate between the two seasons: garments from S/S 2010 are mostly made from 100% silk. Like this shirt that I found:
The same shirt was worn in an editorial titled “Lara & Eve” by Stephen Ward in Tizzy for Russh April/May 2010, styled by Stevie Dance:
Here are the original prints in action on the S/S 2010 runway:

Lastly, I shall leave you with the original pièce de résistance of this collection; behold, the super gaudy platform pumps:
DO YOU REMEMBER THEM NOW?!?! I swear when I first saw it, I thought it was the most hideous shoes I have ever seen. Now that I’m older and is more into fashion as a whole, I can understand the cult-like hype back then. Doesn’t mean I learned to like them, though, haha!
