Roses + Python
Chinoiserie chic
Hope everyone celebrating Chinese New Year enjoyed themselves this year of the Fire Horse! I definitely did; snacked to my heart’s content until I can no longer fit into this dress I’m about to document, LOL.
When I bought this dress, I knew for sure I wanted to wear it on the first day of the festivities! Imagine my luck when I found one in my size within my budget, brand new with tags!
Apologies in advance for the creases; I actually had it steamed, but greed and gluttony got in the way and I stuffed myself silly before remembering to take photos for the blog…
[sheepish]
Although floral prints are often the motif of choice for New Year-worthy qipaos, I think the pale pink background with large burgundy roses is quite ingenious, as opposed to the usual daintier florals in bright red. Another detail I love is the pankou knots made from the same fabric, so they kind of blend into the dress a bit. As always with Shanghai Tang qipaos, they hug all my curves in all the right places; I barely had enough room to breathe once I was stuffed with meals, though.
I got the python-printed boots a few years back, but never wore it out since I tried them on because I wanted to keep them for a special occasion. It is as if I had an epiphany then, that they were meant to be worn together with this dress; an unexpected yet really cool combination. It still had its tags on until I wore them here!
As for the earrings, I was torn between these jade-like pair or another gold pair, so I asked my parents to help me choose, and this was the ultimate winner! I love the subtle flash of green among my unruly mane, while sticking to the chinoiserie theme.

Also, surprise surprise, I did not wear Birkenstocks this time! I did however, bring a pair with me in case these boots bite, and I’m glad I did because I obviously could no longer walk in heels for a long time. I almost tore the boots off me the moment I got into my dad’s car as we were leaving for home, hah!
So that’s it for Day 1! I wasn’t really dressed up for Day 2 because I need a practical outfit; I went thrift shopping with my parents and came back with a few goodies that you will see very soon in this blog, haha.
